Seega is an Egyptian capture and blocking game played on a 5x5 board.
Equipment Needed
- 5ร5 board with intersecting lines
- 12 pieces per player in two distinct colors (24 total)
- Can be improvised with:
- Paper grid with marked intersection points
- Coins or buttons in two colors
- Any 5ร5 board and suitable markers
Setup
- Draw 5x5 board
- Player 1 places 12 pieces on first two rows (and part of third)
- Player 2 places 12 pieces on last two rows (and part of third)
- Center square initially empty
- Alternate who plays first between games
Rules
Movement
- Move pieces orthogonally (horizontal or vertical) one square
- Movement along board lines to adjacent empty squares
- No piece may stay in same position; each move must change position
Capturing
- Surround opponent piece on opposite sides (requires your pieces on both sides orthogonally)
- Captured pieces are removed from board
- Multiple pieces surrounded simultaneously are captured
Game End
- First player to reduce opponent to fewer than 3 pieces wins
- Or game ends when no valid moves remain (stalemate)
