About HumansPlay
Philosophy
Fun doesn't have to be tied to technology or expensive purchases; humans across the globe have a rich history of making and playing games. These games can help people make real connections or have a quiet way to pass their time without all of the distractions of the world. Our goal is to make these human games accessible to the youths of today and generations going forward.
Core Principles
- Human experience first. The point is the human experience of play, whether with people face-to-face or playing solo games. Technology is the reference tool, not the play surface.
- Unencumbered play. Every game should be free to play with minimal or no materials (a standard deck of cards, a ball, pen and paper, standard or polyhedral dice, or nothing at all).
- Open and accessible. No paywalls, no gatekeeping. The games belong to humanity — the project just makes them easier to find and learn.
- Grow by proving value. Start small, iterate, and expand only when each layer has demonstrated it's worth building on.
How This Site Was Made
HumansPlay was built with AI coding tools, directed by human decisions, values, and intent. The games, the philosophy, the curation criteria, and the voice are all human. AI made it possible for one person to build something that would otherwise take a team — and to spend that effort on something freely available to everyone.
